Twelve Human Rights Organizations Condemn Taliban Actions as “Contrary to Islamic Principles”

RASC News Agency: A coalition of human rights organizations has condemned the Taliban as a repressive entity, asserting that Afghanistani citizens have been stripped of their civil and human rights under its regime. In a statement released on Tuesday, December 10, the organizations described the Taliban’s policies and actions as oppressive, emphasizing that their practices stand in stark contradiction to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the core principles of Islam. The statement expressed grave concern over the plight of Afghanistani citizens, particularly women, and called for urgent international cooperation to address their dire circumstances.

The coalition of twelve organizations noted that the Taliban’s policies systematically deprive women and girls of fundamental rights, autonomy, and independence. “As feminist organizations dedicated to gender equality and women’s rights within Islamic societies, we are profoundly alarmed by the rapid deterioration of women’s and girls’ rights. This crisis directly impacts their security, dignity, and future,” the statement read. Furthermore, the statement accused the Taliban of working against the interests of Afghanistani citizens and showing blatant disregard for their well-being. It highlighted that the Taliban’s restrictions on women have inflicted “irreparable educational and economic damage,” describing these policies as the foundation of a “gender apartheid regime.”

The statement was issued by twelve human rights organizations, including Tolerance, Equality, the Afghanistan Human Rights and Democracy Organization, the Women and Children Advocacy Research Network, the Afghanistani Women’s Political Participation Network, the Spontaneous Movement of Afghanistani Women Protesters, Musawir, the Window for Hope Network, the Assembly of Human Rights Defenders, Sisters in Solidarity, Insan, and the Center for Freedom of Expression. The organizations reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Afghanistani women and called for robust international collaboration to address their urgent and growing needs.
