RASC News Agency: The Afghanistan Human Rights and Democracy Organization, in collaboration with several women’s rights advocacy groups, has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the fundamental rights of women and girls in Afghanistan. On Tuesday, December 10, in a joint statement marking International Human Rights Day, these organizations emphasized the urgent need for gender equality and the protection of women’s rights in the country. The statement unequivocally asserted: “Since their return to power, the Taliban have engaged in a systematic campaign to violate women’s rights in Afghanistan.” The advocates further declared: “We stand resolutely with Afghanistani women and demand the immediate restoration of their civil liberties and freedoms.”
The groups accused the Taliban of orchestrating the deliberate erasure of women from Afghanistani society, labeling such actions as crimes against humanity. They highlighted that Afghanistani women, in all their diversity and identities, are currently enduring profoundly dire circumstances under Taliban rule. These advocates expressed grave concern, warning that Afghanistani women and girls are being severely oppressed by what they described as a “terrorist regime.” They cautioned that ignoring the plight of Afghanistani women would pose an existential threat to their future. Moreover, they condemned the Taliban for systematically dismantling two decades of progress achieved by Afghanistani women, eroding hard-won rights and freedoms.
The advocacy groups further decried the escalating humanitarian crisis, noting that over the past three years, alarming reports have surfaced detailing the brutal realities faced by Afghanistani women. These include widespread harassment, arbitrary detentions, sexual violence, and, in some cases, murder. The statement firmly asserted: “The Taliban’s policies and practices are neither humane nor Islamic.” In their concluding appeal, the women’s rights defenders called on the international community to urgently address the ongoing violations of human rights in Afghanistan, particularly those targeting women. They demanded that the perpetrators of these atrocities be held accountable and face justice for their actions, urging global leaders to take decisive measures to end the systematic oppression of Afghanistani women.
