RASC News Agency: Rina Amiri, the U.S. Special Envoy for Afghanistani Women, Girls, and Human Rights, has condemned the Taliban’s decrees as a flagrant violation of human rights and international commitments. She asserted that these actions systematically dismantle the fundamental rights of Afghanistani women and jeopardize the nation’s future. On Thursday, Amiri expressed profound concern over the Taliban’s policies toward women, emphasizing that engagement with the group would remain futile without prioritizing human rights.
In response to the Taliban’s recent ban on women attending medical institutes, she wrote on X: “Over the past three years, the Taliban have systematically stripped women of their most basic rights, including education, decision-making, travel, and even the ability to speak in public.” Amiri characterized these policies as both fatal and a betrayal of Afghanistani women, reaffirming her commitment to addressing societal challenges and championing their rights. She further warned of the dire consequences of the Taliban’s ban on medical education for women, stating that it undermines access to essential healthcare services, including maternal care. She condemned the decree as inhumane and a direct threat to the lives of Afghanistani women and children, cautioning that it endangers the country’s stability.
She stated: “Denying the education of female doctors and prohibiting male doctors from treating women and girls is both inhumane and irrational.” The Taliban’s recent decree, which bans women from pursuing medical education, has drawn widespread condemnation domestically and internationally. Critics have called on the Taliban to reverse this decision, recognizing its severe implications for Afghanistani society and the health of its people.
