Taliban Publicly Flog Man with 80 Lashes in Parwan Province

RASC News Agency: The Taliban have intensified their enforcement of corporal punishment, publicly flogging a man in Parwan province with 80 lashes for allegedly accusing another individual of adultery without substantiating the claim. The Taliban’s Supreme Court stated that the man, identified as Isa Khan, had accused Abdul Razaq of adultery but failed to provide evidence to support his allegation. Consequently, the punishment was administered under the Islamic “Hadd-e-Qazf” provision after the ruling was approved by the Taliban’s supreme leader.

The punishment was carried out in public, with Taliban judicial officials, local authorities, and residents in attendance. Over the past month, the Taliban have subjected 101 individuals, including 15 women, to public floggings across various provinces for a range of alleged offenses. Provinces such as Jowzjan and Khost have reported the highest numbers of such incidents, with 22 cases in Jowzjan and 17 in Khost. Since reclaiming power in 2021, the Taliban have progressively reinstated draconian policies reminiscent of their 1990s regime, including public executions and corporal punishments.

These actions have drawn sharp criticism from human rights organizations and the international community, which have condemned the Taliban’s practices as egregious violations of human rights and a regression to medieval forms of justice.
