Trump Decries Afghanistan Withdrawal as “Most Shameful” Day in U.S. History

RASC News Agency: In a recent speech at the U.S. Department of Justice, former President Donald Trump described the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan as “the most shameful” day in the nation’s history. Trump asserted that had he been in charge, American forces would have left Afghanistan much earlier than the Biden administration’s timeline, but he would have ensured that the strategically vital Bagram Airfield remained under U.S. control. Trump remarked: “It’s not that we were leaving we were always going to leave. But I would have done it far sooner than they (the Biden administration) did. I was the one who reduced the troops to the right level, but we would have kept Bagram. That large Air Force base would have remained ours.”

He further claimed that China now controls Bagram, adding that the U.S. held onto it because it was only one hour away from critical locations where China stores and develops missiles and nuclear weapons. Trump continued: “And yet they (the Biden administration) gave it up. They left the lights on in the middle of the night, abandoned dogs, and failed to take responsibility. In fact, many people say they left all the dogs behind. What a disgrace, what a disgrace…” Trump also argued that the chaotic withdrawal directly contributed to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine. “If you look at Afghanistan, that was probably the trigger for Putin’s actions (the invasion of Ukraine), because when he saw how weak we looked, he knew it was time to act. In my view, it was the most disgraceful day in American history.”

Reiterating his point, Trump said the manner of the U.S. departure from Afghanistan represented “the most humiliating time in American history.” He concluded: “It wasn’t just about leaving; we wanted to leave with dignity and strength. Look at the damage caused by a fraudulent election and the impact it had on our country. When you think about it, the people who orchestrated this should be in prison. They must be held accountable.”
