RASC News Agency: Local sources in Khost province report that the Taliban have publicly flogged a man and a woman in full view of spectators. The Supreme Court of the Taliban confirmed the incident in an official statement, stating that the individuals were flogged in Nadershahkot district of Khost province on charges of “moral corruption.” The court emphasized that the punishment was carried out following a directive from the district judiciary.
According to the statement, the flogging occurred today Thursday, November 21, based on a verdict issued by the primary court in Nadershahkot. Both individuals were subjected to 39 lashes each, as outlined in the Supreme Court’s declaration. Sources revealed that the punishment was administered in the presence of local Taliban officials and “a number of local residents.” The Taliban have previously subjected numerous individuals in various provinces to public lashings. Over the past two weeks alone, one individual was flogged in Nangarhar, another in Herat, and a third in Kabul.
Since regaining control of Afghanistan, the Taliban have repeatedly conducted public lashings of accused individuals. In addition to these acts, the group has carried out public executions of six individuals in front of hundreds of spectators. International human rights organizations have strongly condemned these acts of corporal punishment and public executions, categorizing them as violations of international law and calling for their immediate cessation. However, the Taliban persist in these practices, blatantly disregarding international appeals and the demands of Afghanistani citizens.
