AFP: Germany Maintains Status Quo on Afghanistan Diplomatic Missions

RASC News Agency: According to a recent report by AFP, the German government has made no changes regarding Afghanistan’s diplomatic representation within Germany. A German diplomatic source, quoted on Tuesday, November 212, emphasized that Germany does not recognize the Taliban regime as legitimate. The anonymous diplomat stated, “The federal government has not altered the status of Afghanistan diplomatic missions in Germany and does not view the Taliban regime as legitimate.”

Earlier, the German newspaper “Der Spiegel” reported that Berlin had engaged in talks with the Taliban and Qatar, with Qatar acting as a mediator, concerning the potential return of 28 Afghanistani nationals convicted in Germany. There are indications that future deportations could be facilitated through Uzbekistan, as Germany and Uzbekistan recently signed a migration agreement.

The Taliban-ordered closures of Afghanistan embassies in the United Kingdom and Norway have heightened concerns among Afghanistanis living in Germany. Following the Taliban’s return to power, a significant number of Afghanistani citizens fled to Germany, fearing persecution. For security, political, and economic reasons, some countries have permitted Taliban-appointed envoys to assume control of Afghanistan diplomatic missions. However, official recognition of the group remains withheld. The Taliban continues to be widely regarded internationally as a terrorist organization opposed to human rights and as a proponent of extremist ideologies.
