RASC News Agency: On the evening of Tuesday, June 11, the Taliban publicly flogged 12 individuals in Spin Boldak District, Kandahar Province. According to a statement released on X by the Taliban governor’s media office in Kandahar, these individuals were accused of theft, adultery, and sodomy.
The statement noted that the sentence was handed down by the Taliban’s primary court in Spin Boldak. Human rights organizations and international bodies, including the United Nations, have repeatedly condemned the Taliban’s methods of punishing accused individuals, stating that they are denied legal representation and due process.
In its annual report on human rights conditions in Afghanistan, the U.S. Department of State recently labeled these punishments by the Taliban as “inhumane” and called for their immediate cessation. Notably, on June 3, the Taliban also punished 63 individuals, including 14 women, in the city of Pul-e-Khumri. Additionally, over 60 people were flogged in Sar-e-Pol.
Last week, the Taliban flogged two individuals in Panjshir. Local sources reported that the two had eloped and married last year due to family opposition. They were publicly flogged by the Taliban despite having a child together.
This group adheres to no established laws or regulations, continuing their primitive practices. The Taliban maintain that flogging is a divine mandate, persisting in their actions without a proper interpretation of religious teachings.
