RASC News Agency: Local sources in Parwan province report that the Taliban’s Head of the Department of Martyrs and Disabled Affairs has dismissed two employees for failing to adhere to a strict dress code requiring turbans at the workplace. Sources stated on Saturday, November 9, that this official has mandated turban-wearing for all employees in his department, warning that non-compliance will result in dismissal. The dress mandate has been in place for a week, leading to the immediate removal of two staff members. According to a source, the department head instructed employees to keep their turbans on even until they reach their homes, emphasizing unwavering compliance with this traditional attire.
Since assuming power, the Taliban have imposed rigid regulations on personal appearance and attire for both men and women. The group mandates that women fully cover their faces and insists that men grow beards and wear turbans or caps. Employees across various government departments have been reprimanded and even punished for trimming their beards. Reflecting a deeply tribal outlook, the Taliban’s administration appears to blur the line between professional office settings and the conservative rural villages that shape their worldview villages where wearing a turban is customary and modern development is largely unknown.
With an unyielding tribal mindset, the Taliban seem intent on reshaping Afghanistan to resemble the southern Pashtun-dominated areas, enforcing cultural homogeneity across Afghanistan’s richly diverse society. Their approach reflects a disregard for the country’s ethnic, linguistic, gender, and cultural plurality, favoring instead a narrow, traditionalist vision that seeks to enforce conformity on all levels.
