RASC News Agency: Journalism students at Sheikh Zayed University in Khost province report that the Taliban has imposed an absolute prohibition on photography and filming within their faculty, effectively curtailing a critical aspect of their hands-on journalism training. On Saturday, November 2, several students disclosed to media outlets that university authorities had informed them of the ban. According to some students, the restriction has sparked discord among the faculty. Certain professors, they stated, are still assigning coursework requiring photography and videography, underscoring the ban’s challenge to practical training in journalism.
Students stressed that practical projects in photography and video production are indispensable for completing their degrees. However, to date, Sheikh Zayed University officials have issued no official statement on the restriction. Earlier, during a visit to Khost, the Taliban’s Minister of Higher Education, Neda Mohammad Nadim, prohibited journalists at Sheikh Zayed University from filming or photographing, allowing only audio recordings of his speech.
Under the Taliban’s new “ Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice” decree, displaying images of living beings has been outlawed. This measure places visual media outlets in jeopardy, leading numerous television networks across various Afghanistan provinces to halt broadcasts. The Taliban has indicated that the prohibition on live images will be implemented incrementally, with an expressed intent to eventually convert television networks into radio-only platforms.
