RASC News Agency: Local sources in Ghor province report that Taliban forces have detained and imprisoned at least 30 residents in the aftermath of recent clashes. Sources informed media outlets on Saturday, November 2, that three days prior, a Taliban commander identified as “Wasiq” led a house-to-house search in Tangi Owz village within Shahrak district. According to reports, Wasiq, a commander originally from Ghor’s Talk district, initiated the operation in Shahrak due to personal hostilities. Residents of Tangi Owz, however, resisted and engaged in a confrontation with the Taliban fighters who had entered their homes for searches.
It has been reported that residents successfully disarmed several Taliban fighters during the clash. Sources further indicate that, following the incident, Taliban fighters took a local tribal elder with them. Approximately 20 locals subsequently approached the Taliban, seeking to secure the elder’s release, but they too were detained. The Taliban have since demanded that an additional 10 individuals be presented. Consequently, residents of Tangi Owz, including prominent tribal elders, have been held in Taliban custody since the day after the incident. As of now, Taliban officials in Ghor have not issued any statements regarding these detentions. This incident follows similar unrest last week when residents of Pasaband district in Ghor reportedly clashed with Taliban forces.
Observers note that the Taliban, emboldened by access to American-supplied dollars and military equipment, appear to continue a pattern of arrogance and indifference towards Afghanistani citizens, disregarding their rights and welfare in pursuit of their own authority.
