RASC News Agency: The Taliban’s Police Command in Balkh Province has reported that at least 30 individuals in the provincial center and surrounding districts have committed suicide over the past year. The Taliban’s Police Command in Balkh released these statistics on Thursday, May 30, in their annual report but did not provide further details.
Daily reports of suicides, particularly among youth, women, and girls, emerge from various provinces across the country. Family violence, psychological pressure due to poverty and unemployment, mental illness, and lack of access to treatment are cited as the main reasons for suicides in different provinces.
The Taliban’s Police Command in Balkh also stated in its report that over the past year, the group has arrested 1,472 individuals in connection with criminal offenses such as armed robbery, kidnapping, moral corruption, and other crimes. According to the report, 1,215 of those arrested were men and 257 were women.
The Taliban’s Police Command in Balkh further noted that at least five cases of kidnapping occurred in the province over the past year. Recently, kidnappers abducted a young boy, the son of a businessman, from the city of Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of Balkh Province, and his whereabouts remain unknown.
Kidnapping and other crimes have increased across the country, even as the Taliban continue to claim that nationwide security has been established and that the lives and property of the people are safe.
