Qatar Announces Fourth Doha Meeting on Afghanistan

RASC News Agency: Qatari media reports indicate that the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced plans to convene the Fourth Meeting of Special Representatives on Afghanistan, scheduled to be held in Doha. According to sources, Rosemary DiCarlo, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, recently discussed the arrangements for this meeting with Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.

In a statement issued today Wednesday, October 30, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted discussions focused on enhancing joint collaboration between the Qatari government and the UN Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, alongside examining recent developments across the Middle East. The statement underscored Qatar’s commitment to building upon the positive outcomes achieved in the third Doha meeting of Special Representatives on Afghanistan, aiming to expand these efforts in the upcoming fourth session. This meeting reflects Qatar’s ongoing dedication to facilitating dialogue and advancing stability in Afghanistan through international cooperation.

The United Nations has not yet disclosed an official date for the forthcoming meeting. It is noteworthy that the third meeting, hosted by the United Nations in Doha on June 30 and July 1, saw no representation from Afghanistani women or civil society groups, although the Taliban was represented by a delegation led by spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid. Meanwhile, Afghanistani citizens contend that the Doha meetings between the Taliban and U.S. officials ultimately enabled the Taliban’s control over Afghanistan. Many believe that the agreements reached in Doha led to the gradual handover of Afghanistan’s provinces to Taliban forces.
