RASC News Agency: The European Union has expressed deep concern over Afghanistan’s soaring maternal mortality rates, reporting that a mother dies every two hours from preventable complications. In its latest statement, the EU emphasized that Afghanistan’s maternal deaths are largely due to preventable reproductive and obstetric complications, which have now reached critical levels. “The maternal, child, and neonatal mortality rates remain among the highest worldwide. Every two hours, a mother loses her life due to preventable reproductive and obstetric complications, while 25% of Afghanistani citizens live in remote, underserved regions,” the statement reads.
The EU called attention to the deteriorating conditions facing Afghanistani mothers, stressing the need for immediate support and intervention to alleviate their suffering. According to EU data, Afghanistan faces severe challenges in delivering healthcare, particularly to women, youth, and those in remote areas. Currently, only 10% of Afghanistani women have access to basic health services, while maternal, child, and neonatal mortality rates remain alarmingly high.
The EU expressed its grave concerns, warning that this ongoing crisis is likely to result in a substantial and tragic loss of life if left unaddressed. Since the Taliban’s return to power, Afghanistan has seen a sharp rise in poverty and unemployment, leaving countless families mired in extreme hardship and deepening the nation’s humanitarian crisis.
