Freedom Front: Russia’s Concessions to the Taliban Invite Terrorism to Central Asia

RASC News Agency: The Afghanistan Freedom Front has responded to recent statements by Russian officials about the potential removal of the Taliban from the list of “terrorist organizations,” asserting that Moscow’s concessions to the group will invite “terrorism and extremism” to Central Asia and beyond. In a statement released on Tuesday night, May 28th, the Freedom Front expressed grave concern over Russia’s potential decision, warning that the threat of “terrorism and extremism” will soon knock on the doors of Central Asia.

The statement further argued that Russia’s possible removal of the Taliban from the list of “terrorist organizations” reflects a double standard in the global fight against terrorism, deeming this move unworthy of a great nation like the Russian Federation. The anti-Taliban group emphasized that any concessions to the Taliban would strengthen all “terrorist groups.”

The Freedom Front highlighted that the Taliban have connections with various “terrorist groups,” including Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Ansarullah of Tajikistan, Al-Qaeda, the East Turkestan Islamic Movement, and others. The statement also noted that the Taliban seized political power in Afghanistan through force and have consistently violated the rights of citizens, particularly women, since their return to power.

Earlier this week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that Moscow intends to remove the Taliban from its list of “terrorist organizations.” Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin had also remarked on the necessity of establishing relations with the Taliban.
