RASC News Agency: Amnesty International has once again stressed the need to hold the Taliban accountable, declaring that mere rhetoric cannot stop the ongoing repression in Afghanistan. On Friday, the organization, referencing a petition it initiated, urged the global community to take far more decisive actions against the Taliban.
Amnesty International called on governments worldwide to implement concrete measures and ensure the Taliban are held responsible for their actions. In September of this year, the organization launched a petition urging the international community to adopt “stronger and more coordinated measures” to establish a mechanism for immediate accountability for the Taliban’s violations of international law in Afghanistan, insisting that the group be held to account for their human rights abuses.
The organization further emphasized that all available tools must be employed to pressure the Taliban into respecting the rights of women and girls, ending gender-based persecution, and creating an environment for the meaningful participation of women in social, political, and cultural spheres. Over the past three years of Taliban rule, the global community has not only failed to apply significant pressure on the group but, in some cases, has sought various pretexts to send financial aid to them. Leading this effort is the United States, which officially transfers $40 million to the Taliban on a weekly basis.
