RASC News Agency: Amnesty International has issued an urgent call for an independent investigation into the tragic deaths of Afghanistani migrants at the Iran-Pakistan border. In its statement released on Thursday, Amnesty International expressed deep concern over reports that Iranian border forces had killed Afghanistani migrants. The organization urged a prompt and impartial inquiry into the incident, labeling the situation as “horrifying.”
Amnesty referred to a report by “Halvash”, a Baloch human rights organization, which alleged that Iranian security forces “indiscriminately” fired upon dozens of Afghanistani migrants on October 13. Amnesty described the incident as troubling, especially given that it follows more than two years of documented abuses, including the unlawful use of force by Iranian authorities against Afghanistani migrants seeking refuge after the Taliban’s takeover in August 2021. The organization noted that these actions have resulted in multiple unlawful killings and significant injuries.
In its statement, Amnesty International called for “a swift, transparent, independent, and effective investigation into the unlawful use of deadly force that has violated the right to life of Afghanistani migrants.” It further emphasized the importance of a fair and just prosecution of those suspected of being involved in this violent act. In response to the incident, the Taliban announced that a high-ranking committee had been established to investigate the matter.
The event has sparked widespread condemnation both within Afghanistan and abroad. Hassan Kazemi Qomi, Iran’s special envoy for Afghanistan affairs, refuted the reports, dismissing them as baseless fabrications spread by divisive media outlets.
