A young girl has taken her own life in Kandahar province

RASC News Agency: Local sources from Kandahar province report that a young girl recently ended her own life, concluding her existence. The incident transpired on Monday, March 18th, in the village of Sopanzoi, situated within the Arghistan district of the province.

The girl opted for suicide upon discovering her father’s intention, characterized by a white beard, to forcibly marry her off to an elderly man against her will. The young girl, aged 25, met this fate. The Taliban group has refrained from commenting on this young girl’s suicide.

This development arises within the context of a prevalent trend where numerous girls across various provinces of the country, particularly in the southern regions, resort to suicide due to coerced marriages, abruptly terminating their lives. Despite the Taliban group’s proclamation of forbidden practices such as forced and underage marriages, as well as the “exchange of girls,” investigations into several similar cases over the past two years have not been pursued.

In the aftermath of the Taliban’s assumption of power in the country, women and girls have been stripped of their fundamental rights, including access to education, schooling, and the opportunity to work in governmental and non-governmental entities.
