RASC News Agency: Local sources in Badakhshan province report that the Taliban has imposed segregated medical visitation hours for male and female patients at the province’s central hospital. This new schedule, enforced at Burhanuddin Rabbani Central Hospital, mandates that women must seek treatment before noon, while men are permitted only in the afternoon.
This directive was introduced following the visit of a senior official from the Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, who traveled to Badakhshan to oversee the enforcement of the group’s leader’s religious decrees. During this visit, the official also banned the sale and purchase of condoms throughout the province.
In recent months, the Taliban has intensified its restrictions across various sectors, emphasizing their intent to fully implement the leader’s decrees throughout Afghanistan. However, residents in Badakhshan express their frustration and disbelief at the extreme nature of these new regulations. One resident remarked, “The world has moved forward, yet we are governed by a group stuck in the past.” Citizens have voiced particular concern over the inability of men to accompany their wives or daughters to the hospital, noting, “If your wife or daughter falls ill, you are forbidden from entering the hospital with them.”
The Taliban’s actions have been widely condemned as one of the most regressive forms of governance in modern history. Some locals argue that even in the early Islamic era and among pre-Islamic Arab tribes, such harsh rules were never imposed. Yet, the Taliban continues to enforce what many view as ignorant and inhumane policies on the Afghanistani people, despite the global advancements of the 21st century.
