RASC News Agency: Local sources in Baghlan have reported that Mawlawi Abdul Salam, the supervisor of Khost district, along with 12 of his subordinates, was detained and severely beaten by residents after being caught stealing rice crops. The incident, which occurred two days ago in the village of Deh Mazrab within the Khost district, was confirmed on Wednesday, October 9.
According to these sources, Mawlawi Abdul Salam and his men, disguised in masks, attempted to steal the rice harvests of local farmers. However, they were recognized and apprehended by the villagers. Following the incident, the locals lodged complaints with the district governor, but their grievances were ignored.
It was also emphasized by locals that Mawlawi Abdul Salam had previously extorted farmers. Notably, the Taliban had recently set fire to wheat fields in the same area. Over the past three years, the Taliban have repeatedly demonstrated their impunity, committing various crimes without facing any legal consequences. When the villagers approached the district authorities for justice, they were told, “Our men are Mujahideen and are beyond reproach. A Taliban member can act as he pleases, and no one has the right to complain.”
The Taliban’s plundering of the nation’s wealth seems insatiable, as their members have now resorted to outright theft of the farmers’ harvests, further exacerbating the suffering of the local population.
