300 Afghanistani Families Expelled from Iran and Pakistan

RASC News Agency: The Taliban-controlled Bakhtar News Agency has reported that 299 Afghanistani migrant families were expelled from Iran and Pakistan on Wednesday, October 2, either “forcibly or voluntarily.” According to the report, these migrants re-entered Afghanistan through border crossings in the provinces of Nangarhar, Kandahar, Nimroz, and Herat. The agency stated that 19 families returned via the Torkham crossing, and 48 families through Spin Boldak.

Furthermore, the report detailed that 99 families crossed the border at Islam Qala, while another 133 families re-entered Afghanistan through the Silk Bridge in Nimroz. It is important to note that key drivers for the mass migration of Afghanistani citizens include poverty, unemployment, discrimination, injustice, nepotism, political and ethnic repression, as well as the ongoing violence and targeted killings. Official data confirms that over the past three years, more than 10 million Afghanistani citizens have fled the country due to these escalating crises, many of whom sought refuge in neighboring countries. Large numbers managed to reach Europe and the United States, while a substantial portion remained in Iran and Pakistan.

Reports indicate that these host countries have subjected Afghanistani migrants to poor treatment, with frequent expulsions back to Afghanistan. Upon their forced return, many of these individuals face dire security risks and joblessness. Alarmingly, a significant number have been arrested or even killed by the Taliban after being sent back to Afghanistan.
