RASC News Agency: The President of Tajikistan has urged the international community to support the people of Afghanistan and prevent the unfolding of a humanitarian catastrophe in the country. In a statement, he called on world leaders not to abandon Afghanistan in its hour of need. According to Tajik media reports, President Emomali Rahmon, addressing the United Nations General Assembly in New York, affirmed his country’s commitment to promoting enduring peace, stability, and socio-economic development in Afghanistan.
In his speech on Tuesday September 24, during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, President Rahmon urged the international community to address Afghanistan’s urgent humanitarian needs and take steps to avert a deepening crisis in this “war-ravaged nation.” The Tajik leader emphasized the necessity for the global community to stand by the Afghanistani people and ensure they are not left isolated. He noted that Afghanistan is sinking deeper into poverty and unemployment, with its citizens pushed to the edge of despair. Rahmon underscored the critical importance of providing timely assistance.
A vocal critic of the Taliban, President Rahmon has consistently advocated for the establishment of an inclusive government in Afghanistan, one that includes representation from all ethnic groups. He has frequently called on the Taliban to offer non-Pashtun communities a share in governance and to form a genuinely inclusive administration. This call comes as the Taliban government was notably excluded from the 79th UN General Assembly, with Nasir Ahmad Faiq, a diplomat from Afghanistan’s former government, attending the session as the official representative of Afghanistan.
The Taliban had previously condemned their exclusion, describing it as an “injustice against the Afghanistani people.” However, many Afghanistanis expressed satisfaction with the Taliban’s absence at the international forum.
