RASC News Agency: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has reported that over one million girls in Afghanistan have been deprived of education under Taliban rule. In a message posted on the social media platform X on Tuesday, June 11, UNICEF stated that the continued exclusion of girls from education is affecting the future generation of the country.
UNICEF highlighted education as a vital lifeline for Afghanistani children, emphasizing the importance of investing in education: “Investing in education is investing in the future of the country.” According to United Nations statistics, 1.4 million girls above the sixth grade in Afghanistan lack access to education under the Taliban regime.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warns that without assistance, hundreds of thousands of children currently attending school will be deprived of basic education and face the risks of illiteracy, early marriage, and gender-based violence. Since taking power, the Taliban have barred girls above the sixth grade from attending school and have also prohibited women from working with governmental and non-governmental organizations.
