RASC News Agency: Dawood Naji, the head of the Political Committee of the Freedom Front, has reacted to the destruction of the statue of Abdul Ali Mazari, the leader of Afghanistan’s Islamic Unity Party, stating that the Taliban are determined to dismantle the foundations of national unity. In a statement on Sunday, September 22, Naji emphasized that while “the Taliban’s hammer may shatter a memorial or tombstone, it will inevitably transform many hands into resilient fists.”
He noted that by demolishing Abdul Ali Mazari’s statue in Bamiyan and desecrating the grave of Ahmad Shah Massoud, the national hero of Afghanistan, in Panjshir, the Taliban have revealed their true nature and intentions. Naji further asserted: “Mazari is not merely a statue at an intersection; he is a symbol of justice in the minds and hearts of millions. This is precisely why the Taliban fear him.”
In a rhetorical challenge, the anti-Taliban military front official questioned: “You can break the statues, censor the media, close the doors of schools and universities, and erase the signs. But what will you do with the ideals of freedom and justice that resonate in the minds of millions of men and women?” Previously, Ahmad Massoud, leader of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan, also condemned the Taliban’s actions, stating that breaking a statue cannot erase the path or legacy of a martyr.
This comes as, on the night of Saturday, September 21, the Taliban’s municipal authorities in Kabul demolished Abdul Ali Mazari’s statue at an intersection in western Kabul using bulldozers. Abdul Ali Mazari was captured and subsequently killed by the Taliban in 1995.
