RASC News Agency: Munir Akram, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, expressed Islamabad’s disillusionment with the Taliban’s “heinous, extremist, and misogynistic” actions carried out under the “guise of Islam.” As reported by “The Nation” on Friday, September 20, Akram stated that the Taliban have intensified their misogynistic policies through the enactment of the so-called “Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice” law. He added, “We are disheartened that such abhorrent actions are being justified in the name of Islam. These actions violate the core principles of our faith, which, for the first time, defended equal rights for men and women.”
The Pakistani diplomat emphasized that the Taliban are still far from normalizing relations with the international community. He further noted, “True normalization will not occur until key issues such as security concerns, counterterrorism efforts, human rights, the formation of an inclusive government, illegal migration, and the dire situation of Afghanistani refugees are adequately addressed.” Akram believes that three years after the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan, the country remains in a state of instability. According to his statements, Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is the largest “terrorist organization” operating in Afghanistan, with full support from the Taliban, and continues to orchestrate attacks against Pakistani forces.
These remarks come just two days after China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations urged the Taliban to address the “legitimate concerns” of the international community. In response to such statements, the Taliban’s Foreign Minister claimed that the global community is gathering information about Afghanistan from the group’s adversaries.
