RASC News Agency: Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, has announced that individuals who have entered Iran illegally, including Afghanistani nationals, will be returned to their homeland with dignity. In his first press conference since assuming office as Iran’s president, Pezeshkian stated on Monday that the Iranian Security Council has held three sessions to address the issue of Afghanistani migrants.
Pezeshkian emphasized, “Afghanistani migrants are our guests, and they will be returned to their country respectfully.” The Iranian President elaborated, “Some of these individuals possess passports and official documentation, so they will be treated accordingly. However, those who have entered illegally must adhere to the legal framework. One cannot enter a country unlawfully. Every nation, even Islamic ones, has its own set of regulations. For instance, if we attempt to enter Afghanistan without a passport, we likely won’t be allowed entry.”
He continued, “We are brothers, and as I have said before, we remain so. But a set of legal frameworks between governments must be observed. We are currently working to organize this legal framework between Islamic nations.” In his latest remarks, Pezeshkian reaffirmed, “We will ensure that Afghanistani migrants are returned in a respectful and proper manner. There is no alternative to this.”
Following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, thousands of Afghanistani citizens sought refuge in Iran. They fled unemployment and poverty, moving to Iran and Pakistan in search of work. Many others escaped due to the deteriorating security situation. However, both Iran and Pakistan have recently intensified their efforts to expel these migrants.
