RASC News Agency: The Taliban’s Supreme Court has announced that forces of the group publicly flogged a woman in Sar-e Pol province. According to a statement released today Sunday, September 15, by the Taliban’s Supreme Court, the group’s forces in Sar-e Pol province flogged a woman in public, accusing her of engaging in extramarital sexual relations.

The judicial body of the Taliban stated that the woman was sentenced by the local court in Sar-e Pol to six months of imprisonment and 39 lashes. According to the statement, the sentence was carried out after being approved by the Taliban’s Supreme Court. The Taliban’s judiciary usually does not provide details about the identities of individuals under trial.

It was further noted that judicial, administrative, and military personnel of the group in Sar-e Pol were present during this public punishment. Previously, the Taliban have arrested and publicly flogged women and girls in several provinces, including Herat, accusing them of “running away from home,” in similar makeshift courts. Since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan, such public punishments have been widely carried out across the country.

The group has publicly flogged both men and women across the country for various charges. Moreover, during the past three years of their rule, the Taliban have publicly executed at least eight individuals in the provinces of Farah, Herat, Laghman, Ghazni, and Jawzjan. As usual, the Taliban notify the public in advance about these executions, inviting local residents to attend these makeshift courts.
