A Man Dies Under Torture by a Taliban Official in Faryab

RASC News Agency: Local sources in Faryab province report the death of a man under the brutal torture of Omidullah, the uncle of Mawiya, the Taliban’s intelligence chief in Qorghon district. The victim, identified as Kamaluddin Qara, was arrested from his home by Taliban intelligence forces on Thursday, February 8th. By that evening, the Taliban delivered his lifeless body to his family.

According to sources, Kamaluddin’s father, a businessman in Turkmenistan, had been previously threatened by the Taliban intelligence chief, who demanded payment. Kamaluddin, refusing to yield to the Taliban’s extortion, explicitly stated his unwillingness to comply. Consequently, he was arrested and subsequently murdered by the Taliban.

Further reports reveal that after Kamaluddin’s family refused to pay the demanded sum to Mawiya, Kamaluddin was arrested and tortured to death by the Taliban. Omidullah, Mawiya’s uncle, is a cousin of Mullah Ataullah Omari, the Taliban’s Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock. Local residents accuse the Taliban intelligence chief in Qorghon district of extorting money from the populace, regularly subjecting them to threats and physical abuse under various pretexts.

The Taliban have, thus far, remained silent on this matter. Earlier, on January 21st, a former interpreter for U.S. forces in Afghanistan died under Taliban torture in Asadabad, the capital of Kunar province. Since their takeover, the Taliban have consistently been accused by international organizations of gross human rights violations allegations they have repeatedly denied.

With the Taliban’s rise to power, arbitrary arrests, mysterious killings, and clandestine torture have surged, with a significant portion of these atrocities being perpetrated by the Taliban themselves.
