Afghanistani Activists in Germany Protest the Taliban’s Misogynistic Policies

RASC News Agency: On the brink of the third anniversary of Afghanistan’s fall to the Taliban, a collective of Afghanistani activists convened in Stuttgart, Germany, to denounce the Taliban’s egregiously misogynistic policies. These activists branded the Taliban as oppressive and terrorist, urging the international community to refrain from any engagement with the group and to formally recognize the gender apartheid enforced in Afghanistan.

Dozens of Afghanistani women’s rights activists and civil society members residing in Germany participated in the protest on Saturday, condemning the Taliban regime as a “system entrenched in gender apartheid.” They underscored that the Taliban have no legitimate connection to Afghanistani society. In a resolution, the Afghanistani activists implored the global community to withhold recognition of the Taliban.

Parwana Ebrahimi Khil Nijrabi, a prominent women’s rights advocate, criticized recent statements by some German officials advocating for engagement with the Taliban. She asserted that the Federal Republic of Germany must resolutely refuse to recognize the Taliban and must avoid any dealings with this “terrorist group.” She stated that engaging with the Taliban is tantamount to betraying the Afghanistani people.

Ebrahimi Khil, a renowned women’s rights activist, was previously detained and tortured by the Taliban. In their declaration, the Afghanistani activists affirmed that the systemic discrimination against women and LGBTQ+ individuals under Taliban rule constitutes an undeniable form of gender apartheid, and they called on the United Nations to acknowledge this reality.

They also demanded an end to humanitarian aid to the Taliban and called for targeted sanctions against its leadership. The activists emphasized that the global community must resist any interaction with the Taliban’s lobbyists, who falsely present themselves as representatives of the Afghanistani people.

They called for the prosecution of war criminals, asserting that without justice, peace in Afghanistan will remain elusive. The group appealed to the international community to assist the Afghanistani people in reclaiming their destiny and to support the formation of a “transitional government” in Afghanistan. During the protest, the activists staged a powerful reenactment of the Taliban’s brutal treatment of women and Afghanistani citizens.
