RASC News Agency: Pakistan’s border officials have told the media that the talks between the country’s representatives and the Taliban regarding the reopening of the Torkham crossing on Sunday, 10 September, ended without results.
According to sources, the Torkham crossing remains closed because no progress has been made in the negotiations.
Earlier, Pakistani border authorities said that they have resumed talks with the Taliban group to reopen Torkham port.
This meeting was held in continuation of the meeting between the border officials of the two sides on Saturday, and this is the second time that the meeting between the officials of Pakistan and the Taliban group regarding the reopening of Torkham remains fruitless.
Four days ago, the Torkham border crossing was closed to travelers following the clash between Pakistani border guards and Taliban fighters.
The officials of the Taliban group published a statement on Saturday (September 9) explaining the reason for the conflict between the Pakistani forces and the fighters of this group and wrote: “Pakistani forces fired at the Afghanistani border forces [Taliban group] when [they] were repairing a shell.” There was security that was built years ago.”
Meanwhile, Pakistani sources had previously told the country’s media that the shooting began when the Taliban started building a checkpoint near Torkham Gate and Pakistani forces tried to stop it.
Pakistani officials have said that the Taliban group is building this checkpoint without the approval of the country’s authorities in an area where the checkpoint was not supposed to be built.
Referring to Pakistan’s economic necessity for imports, the Taliban’s foreign ministry has said that closing the Torkham border will affect the trade between the two countries and the region.
