RASC News Agency: The Women’s Movement Window of Hope has declared August 15th—the day marking the fall of the Republic and the return of the Taliban—as a “black day” in Afghanistan’s history. They emphasized that the recurrence of this day signifies the systematic elimination of women, crimes against humanity, genocide, the killing of innocent people from all walks of life, poverty, insecurity, and the proliferation of terrorism.
This movement has stated that August 15th is the darkest day in the history of the country. The statement reads: “August 15th is a reminder of the day when, as a result of the disgraceful Doha Agreement, a democratic nation was effectively handed over to an international terrorist group.” The Women’s Movement Window of Hope also described the fall of the Republic and the return of the Taliban to power as a tragedy, highlighting the profound impact of this catastrophe seen in the eyes of a girl deprived of education, the suicide statistics among girls, widespread poverty and unemployment, the ongoing crisis, and mass migration.
The movement has stated that life for women has become bleak since August 15th. They assert, “Despite all of this, the Taliban continue their crimes unabated.” Since the Taliban’s takeover on August 15, 2021, they have deprived women and girls of all their basic rights, imposing severe bans and restrictions on various aspects of women’s lives.
The Taliban, upon regaining power, have banned girls above the sixth grade from continuing their education and have closed university doors to female students. In nearly three years of their renewed rule, the Taliban have prevented girls from participating in university entrance exams (Kankor), conducting these exams across Afghanistan without the presence of a single female student.
