RASC: The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has expressed concern about the lack of funds to provide aid to the needy people in Afghanistan.
OCHA’s findings show that in the first half of the current year, Afghanistan’s humanitarian response program was severely underfunded and received only $744 million by July 31 of the current year. While the requested budget for assistance was 2 billion 300 million dollars.
In the report of the United Nations Humanitarian Aid Coordination Office, it is stated that with the arrival of winter, extreme poverty and due to the human condition, the opportunity to provide humanitarian aid is limited and if aid is not provided before the cold season, many lives will potentially end and the country will be destroyed.
OCHA wrote about this: “Due to the long transportation time between 4 to 6 months, we have been facing problems in providing food items and medicine, and due to the forecast of the coming cold in early October, an urgent budget is needed to determine vital food aid in the regions. It is at risk of need.”
In another part of his report, OCHA criticized the limitations of the Taliban group and wrote that the Taliban group cannot achieve sustainable financial stability without the presence of women.
OCHA has said that the institution needs funds to help vulnerable women and girls in Afghanistan, along with the health and food security sectors.
Meanwhile, the World Bank has reported that after 2021, the per capita income in Afghanistan has decreased to less than 150 dollars and the per capita income of each Afghanistani citizen has reached less than 350 dollars from 500 dollars.
The United Nations has also reported that currently, 29 million and 200 thousand people in Afghanistan need humanitarian assistance.
