RASC News Agency: The High Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan asserts that the Taliban’s behavior, actions, and mindset have remained unchanged over the past 25 years. The Council stated that today’s Taliban are fundamentally the same as in the past. On the anniversary of the Taliban’s attack on Shamali in 1999, the Council urged the international community to recognize the actions of the group as war crimes.
In a statement released on Wednesday, July 31, marking the anniversary of the Taliban’s incursion into Shamali, Balkh, Yakawlang, and other regions of Afghanistan, the Council accused the Taliban of committing “grave crimes” in Shamali. The statement elaborated that the Taliban engaged in violence, war crimes, and acts of sabotage in Shamali. The Council’s statement read: “The massacre, captivity, and enslavement of women, burning of orchards, cutting down of trees, and destruction of infrastructure were among the heinous acts committed by this group in Shamali, acts that history will not forget.”
The High Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan condemned these crimes, stating that the Taliban, upon regaining control of Afghanistan, continue to suppress, kill, torture, and imprison people in various ways. The statement emphasized that the Taliban have now transformed Afghanistan into a safe haven for terrorism, promoting and exporting it.
During their first regime, the Taliban attacked Shamali, destroying homes, trees, and villages, and arresting, torturing, and killing people simply for being from Shamali and being Tajik. They continue to perpetrate such atrocities today. It is noteworthy that the High Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan was established abroad following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan.
