RASC News Agency: Michael McCaul asserts that under Taliban rule, Afghanistan has become a sanctuary for terrorists and a place where its citizens are brutally oppressed. McCaul, Chairman of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, stated, “Three years after the Biden-Harris administration’s chaotic and deadly withdrawal from Afghanistan, the country remains in the oppressive grip of the Taliban regime, enduring immense suffering.”
He emphasized the dire nature of the situation, noting, “It is both tragic and alarming when a government tortures its own citizens.” In a statement, McCaul criticized the Biden administration, declaring that its disorderly withdrawal left hundreds of American citizens and thousands of Afghanistani allies stranded in Afghanistan. He further noted that this abrupt exit emboldened the Taliban, transforming Afghanistan into a safe haven for terrorists.
McCaul described Biden’s decision as a grave error. Meanwhile, on the third anniversary of their takeover, the Taliban held a military parade at Bagram Air Base, showcasing American weapons. The acting Taliban Interior Minister called for international cooperation with their interim government.
The Taliban, who consider themselves the victors of Afghanistan and claim to have defeated the United States, declared at the event: “If possible, we are willing to cooperate with the U.S. and NATO.” However, the Afghanistani people believe that the Taliban’s rise to power was the result of a major deal between the Taliban and the United States. They assert that Afghanistan was handed over to the Taliban through a significant and deliberate arrangement.
In contrast, Zalmay Khalilzad recently stated that the U.S. did not lose in Afghanistan but rather withdrew as part of a strategic decision. Khalilzad insisted that the U.S. achieved its objectives in Afghanistan and then chose to exit on its own terms.
