RASC News Agency: Local sources in Bamyan province report an incident where a young girl committed suicide shortly after being released from Taliban custody. On Sunday, July 28, sources revealed to the media that the girl, who had recently been freed from Taliban imprisonment, hanged herself the previous day, thus ending her life.
According to these sources, the girl, identified as Tahira, was a resident of the village of Tagab Barg in the Punjab district of Bamyan province. She had been forcibly taken by Taliban members while walking along the roadside a few days prior and was transported to an undisclosed location in a Ranger vehicle.
The sources further disclosed that Tahira was 19 years old and worked as a seamstress. Upon learning of her abduction, the villagers of Tagab Barg approached the Taliban district office in Punjab to secure her release. However, the Taliban district governor asserted that Tahira had been arrested and transferred to Bamyan city for “improper hijab.” Local Taliban officials in Bamyan have not issued any statements regarding the incident. This event is not isolated; there have been multiple reports of young girls committing suicide after their release from Taliban detention.
Throughout the three-year rule of the Taliban, the group has frequently detained young girls from various parts of the country, often justifying the arrests by citing the girls’ failure to comply with the Taliban’s strict dress code. Some of these detainees have reportedly disappeared, while others have ended their lives following their release from Taliban captivity.
