Decker Announces Fourth Doha Meeting on Afghanistan

RASC News Agency: Karen Decker, the U.S. Charge d’Affaires for Afghanistan, operating from Qatar, announced the upcoming fourth Doha meeting on Afghanistan. While specific dates remain unconfirmed, Decker indicated that several preparatory sessions would precede the main conference.

Decker emphasized efforts to convene the meeting and highlighted the ongoing consideration of appointing a special representative for Afghanistan. At the third Doha meeting, representatives cautioned the Taliban that Afghanistan’s current trajectory is stagnant and urged inclusive governance.

Notably, Afghanistani women and civil society were excluded from the third meeting, prompting international protests and criticisms of the Taliban’s exclusionary policies. Following this, the UN held a supplementary meeting with Afghanistani women, but activists argued that the attendees did not represent the broader community.
