RASC News Agency: On Monday, January 15th, Pakistan underscored the significance of regional cooperation concerning Afghanistan to ensure stability in the region. During a meeting between Jalil Abbas Jilani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Iran’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Affairs, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, Minister Jilani emphasized the pivotal role neighboring countries play in maintaining peace and stability.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement wherein Minister Jilani emphasized the necessity for increased coordination among regional countries to foster stability. This coordination is deemed essential in addressing the threats posed by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), ISIS, and Al-Qaeda, all having connections to Afghanistan. Particularly, the TTP has used Afghanistan as a safe haven, conducting attacks against Pakistan since the Taliban regained power in 2021.

Despite ideological differences between the Taliban and ISIS, the situation in Afghanistan has created an environment allowing ISIS to exploit transnational terrorist activities, affecting regional stability. To effectively tackle these threats, it is imperative for regional countries to collaborate through coordinated efforts, information sharing, and diplomatic measures. This approach aims to prevent Afghanistan from becoming a sanctuary for terrorist groups that pose a danger to neighboring countries.

During the fifth Moscow voting session on Afghanistan held in Russia last September, countries in the region urged the Taliban to take effective actions to eliminate terrorist organizations within Afghanistan. The meeting in Kazan further emphasized the significance of ensuring that Afghanistan no longer serves as a breeding ground for terrorism. Mr. Jilani, in his discussion with the Iranian official, highlighted Pakistan’s unwavering dedication to achieving a peaceful and stable Afghanistan.

Before this visit, Qomi had an extensive conversation with his Pakistani counterpart, Asif Durrani, Pakistan’s envoy for Afghanistan affairs, focusing on the current situation in Afghanistan and the prevailing regional trends towards attaining peace.
