Urgent Call to Address Taliban’s Escalating Oppression of Women

RASC News Agency: The international community is urged to take immediate action against the Taliban’s increasing suppression of women in Afghanistan. Since their return to power in 2021, the Taliban have systematically dismantled the rights and freedoms of Afghanistani women, reversing decades of progress. Women are now facing severe restrictions on education, employment, and mobility. Reports of violence, harassment, and imprisonment of women who defy these rules are rampant, painting a grim picture of life under Taliban rule.

The Taliban’s edicts have shut down secondary schools and universities for girls, banned women from working in most sectors, and imposed strict dress codes and movement restrictions. Public floggings and executions have been reported, targeting women who violate these oppressive regulations. The psychological and physical toll on Afghanistani women has been devastating, leading to an urgent call for international intervention.

Global leaders, human rights organizations, and advocacy groups are being called upon to hold the Taliban accountable for their actions. Sanctions, diplomatic pressure, and support for Afghanistani women’s organizations are among the recommended measures to combat this growing crisis. Ensuring that women’s rights in Afghanistan remain a global priority is essential to pressuring the Taliban to change their policies and practices.

The world must not turn a blind eye to the suffering of Afghanistani women. Their fight for basic human rights and dignity requires unwavering support and immediate action from the international community. By addressing the Taliban’s oppressive regime, global actors can help restore hope and freedom for the women of Afghanistan.
