RASC News Agency: Recent reports from YNet News indicate that ISIS and Al-Qaeda are flourishing and “gaining power” under the “supervision of the Taliban” in Afghanistan. According to the report, released on Saturday, July 13: “The withdrawal of the United States from Afghanistan has allowed local terrorist groups to expand their manpower and capabilities to an unprecedented level.”
The publication states: “While ISIS-Khorasan was significantly weakened under the Afghanistan Republic due to limited local support, targeted strikes by American forces, the Afghanistan army, and their battles with the Taliban, the situation has changed.” The report adds that since the Taliban’s return to power, ISIS has been regrouping. This development has raised concerns among neighboring countries, regional powers, and various organizations about the resurgence of terrorist groups, including Al-Qaeda and ISIS, in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan.
Earlier, the Afghanistan Security Watch reported that ISIS had carried out six attacks across the country in the past three months, despite Taliban claims of having suppressed the group. Moreover, the United Nations Security Council recently highlighted in a report that Afghanistan under the Taliban has become a “safe haven” for Al-Qaeda, the Pakistani Taliban, and ISIS.
It is noteworthy that Pakistan, Afghanistan’s neighbor, has repeatedly reported an increase in terrorist attacks within its borders since the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan.
