RASC News Agency: The National Movement for Peace and Justice has criticized the Taliban’s governance methods, stating that public flogging is nothing but blatant aggression and raw violence. In a statement released on Wednesday, July 10, the organization declared: “The honor and dignity of a Muslim are more important than the enforcement of religious edicts.”
This political entity, which includes several officials from the previous Afghanistan government, noted in its statement: “The Taliban brazenly manipulate and trivialize Islamic values, claiming to enforce Sharia law.” The National Movement for Peace and Justice issued this statement in response to a United Nations report on the activities of the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice.
Previously, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) published a report asserting that the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice violates the human rights and fundamental freedoms of Afghanistani citizens.
According to the report, Taliban enforcers have carried out at least 1,033 arbitrary punishments. The report documented 205 instances of misconduct towards women and 828 towards men. Prior to the release of the UNAMA report, citizens had repeatedly complained about the inappropriate conduct of the Taliban’s virtue enforcers.
