RASC News Agency: Amrullah Saleh, a leader of Afghanistan’s National Resistance Front, has vehemently criticized the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) for its report on the “ethical oversight” of the Taliban regime. On his X account, Saleh accused UNAMA of minimizing Afghanistan’s multifaceted and bloody crisis, reducing it to issues of human rights violations, the duties of the Taliban’s Ministry for the propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, and women’s issues, while neglecting that men in this country do not lead normal lives either.
Saleh noted that the report failed to mention instances of prisoner torture, ethnic discrimination, and the lack of inclusivity in the Taliban’s judiciary. He described the report as pointless and hollow. Addressing UNAMA, Saleh stated, “Your silence would have been better than this disgrace. Your sycophantic speech has caused irreparable damage to the reputation of the United Nations.”
He further asserted that the UN office has systematically attempted to downplay Afghanistan’s multifaceted and bloody crisis, restricting it to human rights violations, the duties of the Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, and women’s issues, while these are only a small part of our problems.
Saleh questioned whether UNAMA’s real reports are being edited and censored by mysterious hands in New York or whether UNAMA itself has fallen victim to corruption and bribery, stating that only UNAMA can answer this question. The exiled Vice President of Afghanistan noted that the country lacks a capital, a constitution, laws, and regulations.
He stated, “We are in contact with the families of some prisoners. They are commuting between Kabul and Kandahar just to submit a simple petition to visit their loved ones in prison.” Saleh emphasized that the UNAMA report completely omits any mention of ethnic, group, and collective punishments. Addressing UNAMA, he wrote, “Do you know that most of the Taliban’s decisions are based on tribal prejudice and discrimination? Why have you ignored this massive crisis? Why do you attribute this savage and ignorant behavior to the Taliban’s interpretation of Sharia law?”
He added that the Taliban refer everything to Sharia but have yet to provide the public with a copy of this law, leaving people unaware of what they have violated and what they should adhere to. He claimed that people in certain areas and provinces of Afghanistan are not allowed to move from one area to another because they are always under suspicion based on their ethnicity, language, and location. “Why have you overlooked this normal aspect?” he questioned.
He wrote, “Where is social justice? Why have you not referred to the underlying crisis throughout your report?” Saleh accused UNAMA of accepting bribes and betraying the Afghanistani people.
