RASC News Agency: According to reports from media outlets under Taliban control, the group has recently detained six individuals in Khost province on charges of cutting down trees. The Taliban-controlled national radio and television reported on Saturday, July 6, citing security officials in Khost province, that six individuals were arrested in connection with illegal logging in the Qalandar, Musa Khel, and Tani districts of the province.
The report stated that the Taliban seized three vehicles loaded with timber from the detained individuals. Similar incidents have occurred in several provinces previously, but the perpetrators involved in such activities have not been identified until now. In the latest incident, nearly a week ago, dozens of fruit-bearing trees were cut down by unknown individuals in Jaghori district, Ghazni province.
It is noteworthy that since the Taliban’s takeover, reports of tree and forest logging have increased across various provinces, with claims that the timber is being smuggled to Pakistan. During nearly three years of Taliban rule, the group has paid little attention to environmental conservation, resulting in the natural resources of many provinces facing the threat of exploitation.
