RASC News Agency: Michael Kurilla, the commander of the United States Central Command, asserted in his latest remarks that the quasi-militant group TTP poses a “serious threat” to the stability of Pakistan’s border regions, yet the Afghanistani Taliban have shown no interest in addressing this group. The Express Tribune reported that General Kurella made these statements on Sunday, Mar 10, in the United States Senate, adding: “The Taliban also display little inclination to pressure the Pakistani Taliban in terms of combating terrorist groups, despite the TTP being considered a serious threat to Pakistan’s border regions.”

General Kurilla underscored that the presence of safe havens in Afghanistan for extremist quasi-military groups exacerbates the threat of their activities and could escalate into regional conflicts. The American official further stated: “In 2023, 2300 Pakistanis fell victim to extremist organizations, and during this period, 881 attacks by the Pakistani Taliban have been perpetrated in Pakistan, signifying a significant figure over the past five years.”

He warned, “The inability or unwillingness of the Afghanistani Taliban to restrain extremist groups could result in instability in Central and South Asia.” This occurs as Pakistani authorities have persistently urged the Afghanistani Taliban to take action against the extremist quasi-military group known as the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Afghanistan, yet this group has not responded to the matter thus far.
