RASC News Agency: A young Afghanistani man attacked a German woman with a knife on Monday, severely injuring her. This assault occurred near the European Central Bank, less than two weeks after an attack in Mannheim that resulted in the death of a police officer in Frankfurt. German media reported that a 19-year-old Afghanistani assailant stabbed a 41-year-old woman from behind.
According to the German publication Frankfurter, the attack took place early Monday afternoon. The assailant approached the woman, who was seated on a park bench in the Weseler Werft area near the European Central Bank, and inflicted multiple knife wounds to her head and neck. The woman attempted to flee but collapsed after a few steps. The perpetrator then stabbed her again. Her cries for help attracted passersby, who intervened to rescue her.
Police reported that the assailant fled the scene but was quickly apprehended. Dominik Mies, a spokesperson for the public prosecutor’s office, stated, “So far, there is no evidence that the attacker and the victim knew each other.” It is also unclear why this Afghanistani man, registered in Baden-Württemberg, was in Frankfurt.
The Frankfurter reporter noted that this incident revives memories of the fatal stabbing of a police officer in Mannheim less than two weeks ago. Meanwhile, several analysts suggest two potential reasons for these attacks: the attackers’ extreme religious sentiments or possible orders from the Taliban to carry out such acts to precipitate the return of Afghanistani migrants from Germany. The Taliban could potentially benefit from these returns.
A Taliban official recently responded to the German Prime Minister’s call for the return of Afghanistani migrants by suggesting that the German government engage in discussions with the Taliban to facilitate their repatriation. Just a week ago, another Afghanistani migrant attacked and killed a German police officer.
