The Third Doha Meeting: A Crucial Opportunity to Stand with Afghanistani Women

RASC News Agency: On the eve of the third Doha meeting on Afghanistan, Human Rights Watch has emphasized that this event presents a crucial opportunity to support Afghanistani women. In its daily report published on X on Tuesday, June 11, the organization asserted that the upcoming Doha meeting must not downplay the human rights crisis in Afghanistan.

Heather Barr, the head of the women’s division at Human Rights Watch, highlighted the 1,000-day deprivation of education for girls in Afghanistan, stating, “Afghanistan can never recover from the 1,000 days of educational deprivation.” The report underlined that Afghanistani women’s stance for reclaiming their rights is clear and that the international community must hold the Taliban accountable for their actions.

The organization described the restrictions imposed by the Taliban on Afghanistani women as “gender apartheid” and firmly condemned any actions that would normalize or legitimize the group. The third Doha meeting is scheduled to take place in Qatar at the end of June, where United Nations experts and special country representatives will review the global community’s approach to Afghanistan.

During their nearly three-year reign, the Taliban have imposed increasing restrictions on the lives, work, and activities of women and girls, barring girls above the sixth grade from receiving an education.
