Noor: Extremists Prohibit Nowruz Celebrations for the Third Successive Year in its Birthplace

RASC News Agency: Ata Mohammad Noor, a member of the National Resistance Council for Afghanistan’s Salvation, asserts that for the third consecutive year, the “Taliban extremist group” has forbidden Nowruz celebrations in its place of origin, a situation deemed regrettable.

Ata Mohammad Noor, the former governor of Balkh, authored a letter on the inaugural day of the Afghanistan New Year, articulating that the prevailing circumstances, propelled by the Taliban’s ruthless tactics, lack stability and sustainability. The foundation of these circumstances is oppression, torture, and the unjust killing of innocents, which is deemed unacceptable.

Mr. Noor emphasized that “antagonism towards Nowruz does not stem from religious doctrines or principles; rather, it emanates from a disdain for our values and the foundations of civilization, perpetuating a policy of identity eradication.” Additionally, he highlighted that for the third consecutive year, school doors have been shut to girls, and the school bell tolls for only a fraction of society.

As a member of the National Resistance Council for Afghanistan’s Salvation, he underscored the proliferation of religious extremism in the country, asserting that “with the propagation of extremism through the establishment and expansion of religious schools to propagate extremist ideologies, alongside efforts to modify the educational curriculum, extremist ideology is becoming deeply rooted, with the inevitable outcome evident.”

Mr. Noor, addressing the global community, stated that countries worldwide and in the region must recognize that Afghanistan’s stability under Taliban dominance is unattainable and impractical.

It is noteworthy that prior to the Taliban’s reign, Nowruz celebrations were an annual occurrence in Afghanistan with the advent of the Afghanistan New Year. However, for the third consecutive year, Nowruz festivities have been banned and prohibited in its birthplace, ancient Balkh, by the Taliban group.
