Tajik-Origin Taliban Officials Dismissed from Panjshir Province

RASC News Agency: Local sources from Panjshir province report that 20 Tajik-origin officials from the Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice have been dismissed. Sources informed the media on Sunday, June 9, that the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice dismissed 20 of its officials, who were native to Panjshir and of Tajik ethnicity, last week.

According to the sources, replacements for these dismissed officials are likely to be appointed from other provinces. The sources added that despite possessing certificates from religious seminaries, these individuals were dismissed for not holding advanced religious qualifications.

The primary role of the Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice is to oversee the behavior and appearance of citizens, often causing fear and criticism among the population. These officials have also been reported to have beaten citizens and detained women and girls in various provinces over their dress.

Previously, the Taliban have repeatedly removed non-Pashtun individuals from their positions in various provinces, replacing them with Pashtun-origin officials.
