Taliban Initiate House-to-House Searches in Badghis

RASC News Agency: Local sources from Badghis province in western Afghanistan report that Taliban forces have commenced house-to-house searches in various parts of the province. A local source, requesting anonymity, told RASC News on Friday, June 1, that the Taliban began these searches in certain areas of Badghis city this morning, causing significant anxiety among residents.

The source explained that the Taliban are searching for weapons and other military equipment from the previous government, disrupting households in the process. The source added that this is not the first time the Taliban have conducted house-to-house searches, creating difficulties for the residents of Badghis.

“The Taliban should identify and search houses linked to former government forces, not disrupt all residents’ homes,” the source emphasized. Another source, speaking on condition of anonymity, informed RASC that the Taliban have repeatedly searched people’s homes and taken numerous individuals away under various pretexts to undisclosed locations.

The source noted that it is unclear whether those taken were former military personnel, but many people are now detained in Taliban prisons following these searches. According to the source, these house-to-house searches have had a profoundly negative impact on women and children. Jamil Hakimi, a civil activist in western Afghanistan, confirmed that the Taliban have instilled fear among families during these searches.

He questioned the Taliban’s motives, asking what exactly they are searching for that the public is unaware of. Hakimi suggested that instead of exhausting themselves with these invasive searches, the Taliban should focus on creating employment opportunities and improving living conditions for young people and other segments of society.

Taliban officials in Badghis have not yet commented on this matter.
