RASC News Agency: Local sources from Farah Province in western Afghanistan report that Taliban security forces are using violence to coerce girls and women into marriage, threatening to shoot their families if they refuse. A local source in Farah, who wished to remain anonymous, told RASC News Agency on Friday, May 24th, that many Taliban security personnel, primarily stationed in the province’s ten districts, have been using their weapons to intimidate families into marrying off their daughters to Taliban members.
The source stated that these individuals, including Taliban commanders and security forces, frequently use the threat of violence to compel Farah residents to marry off their daughters and widows to Taliban fighters. According to the source, some families, out of fear, have complied with these unlawful demands and married off their daughters to Taliban commanders and security personnel. However, others have resisted and refused to comply.
The source further mentioned that families who have opposed the Taliban’s demands have since disappeared without a trace. Another source, who also wished to remain unnamed, told RASC News Agency that Taliban members, from the highest ranks to the lowest, believe that with their control over Afghanistan, they can oppress the people at will and commit any atrocity they desire.
The source emphasized that the Taliban leadership, who consider themselves superior, should operate according to a code of conduct that garners the complete satisfaction of all societal groups. According to the source, if the Taliban’s oppression and crimes against various segments of society were reduced, the Afghanistani people could achieve significant progress through collective effort.
Meanwhile, Asghar Majidi, an expert in western Afghanistan, confirmed that all Taliban members have trampled on the human dignity of everyone for their own lustful desires. He added that the Taliban believe they own Afghanistan and have dismissed the role and importance of the nation’s people.
Majidi stressed that if the Afghanistani rulers believe that the people play only a symbolic role in the country, they are gravely mistaken, as the true owners of Afghanistan are its people. It is worth noting that recently, Taliban commanders in northern Afghanistan also forcibly married a married woman.
