Herat Residents: People’s representatives in the national and provincial councils were nothing more than traders

RASC News Agency: Certain inhabitants of Herat province, situated in western Afghanistan, have voiced concerns regarding some representatives within the National and Provincial Councils, accusing them of neglecting citizens and their dire circumstances. Ahmad Wahid, a Herat resident, relayed to the RASC News Agency on Thursday, May 23, that representatives within the National and Provincial Councils of Herat have predominantly prioritized personal interests, demonstrating disregard for the predicaments faced by Herat’s populace.

Wahid elaborated that the actions of certain representatives within Herat’s legislative bodies have primarily revolved around transactions, commissions, and both political and non-political maneuverings, rather than genuine advocacy. Expressing widespread disillusionment, he emphasized the populace’s aversion to hollow, symbolic representatives, urging their departure from Afghanistan and Herat province.

He added, “If these parliamentarians genuinely empathized with the people’s struggles, our nation wouldn’t be in such disarray.” Furthermore, Atef Rahimi, another Herat resident, informed the RASC News Agency that despite myriad threats, citizens ventured to the polls, casting votes for their favored candidates. Rahimi articulated, “The same representatives for whom people risked their lives are now conspicuously absent, fixated solely on turmoil and negotiations, devoid of broader considerations.”

He lamented the unfulfilled promises made by most representatives, attributing their disappearance to economic and political subterfuge. Echoing Rahimi’s sentiments, he questioned, “Amidst the turmoil wrought by the Taliban, where do these representatives stand, and do they comprehend the plight of our nation?”

Civil activist Timur Sharifi corroborated, asserting, “Several representatives in the National and Provincial Councils of western Afghanistan were merely traders within the republic government, now fleeing.” Sharifi urged, “Citizens must refrain from placing trust in such incompetent, undeserving representatives and prevent their return to leadership roles.”

He advocated for representatives to stand alongside their constituents amidst these trying times, acknowledging their shared grief and sorrow. Notably, among Herat’s representatives in the National and Provincial Councils, only Omar Nasir Mujadidi remains in parliament, with Kamran Alizai and Gholam Habib Hashemi retaining seats in the Herat Provincial Council.

Furthermore, it’s pertinent to mention that other representatives from Herat province’s National and Provincial Councils are currently abroad.
